GENERAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:
The Single Crate VME 4877HVDS System uses a standard commercial 21 slot, 6U x160 mm VMEbus crate. The J1 backplane is standard and uses a passive bus terminator. The 4877HVDS J2 backplane is a special unit used to distribute bulk power and to jumper-connect the 4877PSs protective logic into sets of 4877PS and power supply "trip groups" in the event of load fault.
The Single Crate 4877HVDS
Systems power is provided by 60 Hz, single-phase 110 VAC. At 40°C rating, the AC current
demand
(including the 4877BL crate blower): 17.1 amperes, steady state with six 4877PS modules at
full load. The turn-on surge current demand is 70.1 amperes. these values are taken from
the Lambda power supply manuals at full rated loads and 40°C.
The required PC is an AT or PCI bus IBM-compatible machine equipped with (at least) 4 MB RAM, a hard disk, floating-point multiply-divide, and a 3.5", 1.44 MB floppy disk for program entry. A printer is a useful adjunct for hard copy data logging. The system is controlled by the HVCONTROL program and operates under MS DOS, level 3.3 or above. A Windows version of this program may also be used (not currently available). The HVCONTROL program is written in PASCAL V6.0. 3.5" executable and source code disks are provided with the system.

High Voltage Systems is protected under U.S. patent #4,888,673 and available only to facilities and projects funded by the U.S. Government, but soon available to the commercial sector by current license negotiation.
