GENERAL Description:
The Bi Ra Model 8884 Rack Protection System is a detection system designed for the measurement, announcement and control of potentially damaging conditions inside an equipment rack. This simple, but effective system, protects your vital equipment from excessive heat, water/smoke damage, ect. The RPS provides a warning and or alarm status. Selectively enable or disable any individual warning or alarm in any combination. The RPS is capable of monitoring 3 crates, a total of 12DC voltages in a rack. The voltages can range from 2V to 24V DC with a resistor value in main chassis being changed for the various voltages being monitored. The system was designed to operate from +/- 12V DC since most sensors require these voltages.

RPS / ETHERNET
This unit is capable of remote monitor and control functions. The system responds with a "Main Alarm" or "Main Warning" associated with a individual response based upon enabled items. Control functions may be initiated at any time to disable responses or reset conditions. Upon receiving an alarm the RPS responds by disconnecting multiple Vac inputs unless this function is disabled, leaving control to the operator.

The RPS main chassis includes an Ethernet Data Acquisition System. This provides 32 I/O channels, programmable in four byte-wide (8-bit) ports. Port3 default configuration is set to power-up in output mode with zero level outputs, this initializes the RPS control. Ports other than port3 always power-up as input ports. Ports 0,1 and 2 must be set to input operation with port3 set to output operation after power-up. The port settings are of critical importance. Features and Benefits include, Direct 10Base-T Ethernet interface with TCP/IP protocol and two serial ports for monitoring/controlling RS-232 and RS-485 devices. This functionality provides a relatively effortless way to add industrial serial device network elements to Ethernet.

DESCRIPTION

Digital I/O

Each 8884-1001E provides 32 digital I/O channels, programmable in four byte-wide (8-bit) sections, or ports. Each digital port is TTL-level compatible and can be independently programmed for input or output. Trough local signal processing, various digital input/output functions are supported. Inputs can be used to read the current status of digital signals, detect signal state-changes (latch a state), and count events up to 250Hz. Outputs can operate in simple on/off fashion, or can be programmed for specific delay times and on/off times for control and timing applications. In addition, eight of the digital output channels can be individually configured for predetermined output states at power up. All inputs and outputs are protected from damage under power on and power off conditions.

High-Speed Counters

Two 16-bit high-speed programmable counters capable of counting TTL level signals up to 250kHz are also provided. These counters also perform direct frequency measurement. High-speed counter inputs are made available by multiplexing them with digital input lines.

Serial I/O

RPS systems also feature serial I/O capabilities. An on-board RS-232 port can be used for both configuration and I/O applications. When the RS-232 port is in "Configuration Mode", any terminal device or computer with an RS-232 port can be used to program the unit's IP address, subnet mask and gateway parameters. With the port in "Command Mode", RPS units can monitor and control almost any device with RS-232 connectivity, including instruments, scales, gauges, smart sensors, machines and terminals.

RPS systems which feature RS-485 I/O capabilities are also available. In addition to analog, digital and PS-232 I/O capabilities, these units monitor and control any number of instruments, sensors, and machines with RS-485 connectivity.

Data Retention

The 8884-1001E protects your data in the event of power outage. After power is lost, the unit will retain state and count values on each channel for up to five days.

DESCRIPTION

Analog I/O

The 8884-1031E Series and 8884-1002 Series can be configured for 16 single-ended or for 8 differential analog input channels through software. The 8884-1031E Series unit provides high-accuracy 16-bit resolution for the analog input channels and the 8884-1003E Series offers analog input channels with 12-bit resolution.

Both units are also equipped with two analog output channels. They provide voltage outputs at 12-bit resolution with a ± 10 V output range.

One rate generator is also provided for pacing analog input acquisitions. The timebase for the rate signal is derived from an internal 4 MHz crystal oscillator, allowing rates from 0.01 Hz to 100 kHz to be programmed.
